This car was delivered to the dealer Bald in Siegen, Germany on July 30th, 1934. The original color was yellow and blue. Smith purchased the frame in 1997 from a friend, Frank Moreira's wife, after the original body was destroyed in a fire. A reproduction roadster body was obtained from Jan Poplar in Czechoslovakia in 1999. The car finished restoration in 2001. The engine is a modified BMW 329 - 2 liter with 3 carburetors and increased compression. A Volvo M40 transmission was installed for reliability purposes, in order that the car could be toured with confidence, which it did in 2001 at the BMW Classic Marathon 2,500 miles through the back roads of 11 countries in and around Germany. At double the original horsepower, this car has no trouble keeping up with the 328’s. It is quite fast and should be a pleasure to drive for any BMW enthusiast.
